PROJECT 1(A):
The Nature Journal
For this project, we were assigned to watch a documentary, 'EARTH' (2007) and document our findings of several elements in flora and fauna through observation, extended research and reflection in an infographic manner.
Week 1: Introduction
In the first week, I could only begin by researching the information and planning the layout of each page as my materials were being delivered. In doing so, I learnt a lot about the aspects of nature. In addition to that, I also created a board on Pinterest, to gain an insight on how my drawings could be like.
'The Inevitable Nature'

I decided to name my journal as 'The Inevitable Nature' because it reflects in clear contrast, just like the sunlight on the waves, the resilience in nature. It overpowers us all despite all the damage mankind has brought upon mother nature. We should never underestimate the overwhelming force of nature. The scenery encaptures not only the sea but the deep fathoming strength of the ocean, a major part of nature. The colours of the sky represent the beauty of nature in both the sky and the sea. Hence the movie, 'EARTH (2007),' expresses the themes of great power and beauty of nature at its finest in various habitats.
Week 2: Flora & Fauna Elements
In this week, when I received my watercolour paper, I immediately soaked all 15 pages in tea to have a journal effect. Then, I carried out my layouts and all went smoothly. However, sometimes choosing key information can be perplexing as there are so many important characteristics when it comes to anything that is natural.

From this week, I explored various techniques in watercolour and acrylic paint.
Week 3: Topography & Nature Phenomena
In this week, I struggled quite a bit to get the paintings done. Watercolour is not easy to control, hence, there were many trial and errors before I could get the results that I wanted. Especially when it came to painting the AURORA AUSTRALIS, I had to scrap several copies as it was truly difficult to obtain that light effect. But as time was running shorter, I went with the best among the attempts. Overall, the experience for this week, helped me improve my skills in painting - especially my patience!
Week 4: Appreciating Nature
PROGRESS
REFLECTION
By watching the documentary, I was able to understand the ethical issues in the context of the field of studying nature.
My intellectual engagement was truly insightful. I was able to locate, extract, synthesise and utilise the information I obtained from various resources via the internet, case studies and the documentary itself.
I was given the ability to reflect on my actions by managing my time efficiently as well as refining self-reliance.
After completing this project, I was overjoyed that it was all over. It took a lot of determination to not procrastinate to achieve the outcome I have at this moment. There were days where I would feel very lazy to keep drawing hours on end. Sometimes a page a day can be exhausting! So I really hope that my hard work pays off!
