PROJECT 1(B):

The Nature Dialogue

For this project, we were assigned to work in groups to conduct a virtual discussion whilst acting as a character. We were to discover 3 different scopes based on a given topic within a specific time span.

Week 2(I): Introduction

As this assignment was the first time where students were grouped, it was a different start. Especially since none of us have met each other before! Looking at the grouping list, I found out that my other two group members were Jaylene and Jeremiah. Thankfully, I managed to get hold of their contacts, and created a WhatsApp group as quickly as I could. After so, we settled on choosing the Nile River as our topic on the category of freshwater.

We then proceeded by sharing a Google document and listing out the requirements needed for the assignment. As well as that, I created a timeline draft for us to follow up and track our progress.

Week 3(II): Script Writing

As we were off to a good start, we planned to complete our script by the end of the week.

Due to my experience in script writing, we decided that I would write the dialogues whilst they would compile the media to showcase each of the three scopes.

In addition to that, we would rehearse our lines each time we called whilst using a stopwatch at hand to ensure that we would not exceed the time limit. Furthermore, we would exchange feedback amongst one another on how well we have articulated and expressed our roles as nature journalists. And as the group leader, I believe that consistency is key which is why we kept practicing and practicing.

As the calls went by, our acting improved, as well as some of our pronunciation. But there was still a long way to go...

Week 4(III): Prezi Slides

Week 5(IV): Compiling, Drawing & Editing

Our delegation of tasks divided each of us to: compile the PDF file of the discussion script, draw out the storyboard of the video, and most importantly, edit the video.

With Jaylene's artistic drawing skills, she took on the task of the storyboard, while Jeremiah's attentivity was the right job for compiling the PDF with all the requirements completed. Last but not least, with my experience in editing videos, I took on the role of editing the video. While each of us progressed throughout the days, we would update each other and check for any errors that can be perfected. Of course, nothing is perfect, but we did our best to achieve the results we wanted. In doing so, we eventually finished our works and shared them into a Google Drive, ready for submission.

PROGRESS

With the MCO, it was rather difficult to be as efficient compared to a face-to-face discussion. However, with the timeline table, I was able to delegate the tasks equally. Each of us researched on one specific scope and put it in our own words to prevent any sort of plagiarism. In doing so, we would call daily to discuss how we would continue our progress.

In this week, we started to making our visuals by using the platform, Prezi. We decided to use this instead of Google Slides as Prezi has more of an animated flow.

After altering, adjusting, and changing the many layouts, we managed to finish our slides in 5 days! We were ahead of schedule which was better than we hoped.

We were one step closer... Until we received feedback from our tutor, Mr. Paul. To ensure that we do our very best, we took Mr. Paul's suggestion into action! Adding a case study to our discussion may have extended the duration of the video, but in the end, it's all about the quality not the quantity!

After finalizing the latest version of the script, we started recording on Zoom. However, the quality of the recording was very poor, resulting us experimenting with our recording using Discord, Google Meet, and finally, Skype.

REFLECTION

From the case study that Mr.Paul informed us to include, I was able to understand the professional practice within the field of study (the Aswan High Dam).

With the restriction of MCO, doing this project online has given me the ability to communicate appropriately in various settings and modes.

As this was the first group assignment of the first semester, I was able to understand the team dynamics and the mobilisation of teamwork.

As the editor of the video, I have refined my skills in using

All in all, I gained a lot from this project. I could not have done it without Jaylene and Jeremiah. Personally, I am grateful that this project was a smooth and pleasant course!
