Week 6(I): Macro + Micro Study

In the first week, I could only begin by researching the information and planning the layout of each page as I was in Ipoh attending to a family emergency. In doing so, I learnt a lot about my hometown, Kuala Lumpur City Centre. With the unforeseen circumstance, this project reminded me of how I felt back in Kuala Lumpur, the bustling city of the capital of Malaysia.

My interpretation of my hometown is more than just a nostalgic place where I was born in. What truly defines Kuala Lumpur is its profound and distinct diversity of culture and street life. It is my COSMOPOLITAN hometown.

Week 7(II): Layouts, Inspirations & Pinterest!
Week 8(III): Part A & B; Tangible Components

After I finally managed to buy some art supplies in a small bookstore, I had to work with what I had as all my quality materials were back in Kuala Lumpur. So I began with the cover page and so on so forth, the other pages of my pamphlet.

Week 9(IV): Part B; Intangible Components

PROGRESS

For this week, I started making a Pinterest board and saving all the aesthetically pleasing artwork and compositions of urban space analysis', as well as cartographic posts too. This was one of the fun parts of the project as I got to explore and motivate myself from all the wonderful creations made by artists in the Pinterest spectrum.

After obtaining a sufficient amount of pins, I began sketching and drafting out the composition and layout of each of the pages whilst selecting the necessary information that will be put into the pamphlet. I decided to make the layout in a flowing form just like how touristic pamphlets are designed to be for a more intriguing look.

Like the previous week, I continued to progress my pamphlet. All was going well, however a times I would change the layout often which took up quite some time.

Here is a video showcasing the zoning map of Kuala Lumpur City Centre inspired by the cartography shown previously.

This week, I proceeded with Part C. This made me reflect on how much my hometown means to me.

I never knew that it was and still is such a big impact in my life as it defines who I am as a KLite.

Week 10(V): Part C; Favourite/Sentimental Components
Week 11(VI): Part D; Conclusion

For this week, I concluded a S.W.O.T. Analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Kuala Lumpur City Centre along with ideas of improvement and the vision that I foresee of the city based on the thorough information that I have collected. With a better understanding, I am now more aware on the current conditions and issues that Kuala Lumpur City Centre contains.

By doing thorough research, I was able to understand the ethical issues in the context of the field of my hometown, Kuala Lumpur's data.

My intellectual engagement peaked here. I was able to locate, extract, synthesise and utilise the information I obtained from various resources via the internet, case studies and personal anecdotes.

I was given the ability to reflect on my actions by managing my time efficiently as well as refining self-reliance while being in another environment.

All in all, I felt satisfied with the results I had produced. With hard work and determination, I can accomplish any goal. This project was indeed fun to do as I explored many things about the place I was born in and also discovered new art techniques.
