PROJECT 2:

Designer's

Portraiture

For this project, the first part required us to analyse the usage of various styles from different artists. We then extracted the natural and man-made elements to compose a self-portrait. We were to experiment with media on several mediums whilst incorporating symbolism within each element. Through an exploration process of three stages, the outcome of an A2 portrait is produced.

Stage I: Artists' Analysis

For the first week, I began researching the given artists mentioned in the project brief. After doing so, I decided to choose artists with an abstract style using vibrant colours and bold strokes. The three artists: David Hockney, Fernand Léger and Akinao Saito. I then experimented with different media in various compositions of self-portraits.

Stage II: Integrated Exploration of Styles

In this stage, I integrated the styles of all 3 artists into 3 different A3 compositions. This enabled me to explore the techniques in a bigger size.

Stage III: Final

PROGRESS

After deciding on how to construct the composition of the portrait,

I then picked out the media that suited the painting the best.

I was able to enhance my knowledge using digital platforms to compose various measurements.

This assignment has taught me how to create art in a personal way. It was enjoyable to learn and explore various styles of art as well as going into the mind of such well-renowned artists. I felt a great sense of wonder in my work which made me appreciate the importance of this module as a start.
